La Zara is the stage name of singer Fatima Zahra Hafdi. Hafadi was born in Canada to a Moroccan family, and is what is called a "light bloomer", at least when it comes to the glittering world of stages and music, since until a few years ago La Zara was a hairdresser.
"I worked to the sound of Barbra Streisand," she said of how she taught herself to sing. "To this day I have no idea what to answer when people ask me what scale I sing," she admitted. The decision to become a full-time musician, she said, came when she realized she was bored to death with her job as a hairdresser and, almost ironically, had developed an allergy to hair dye.
Although we're most in favor of a crazy and sparkling show, it's impossible not to feel that Le Zara's show (35) with the song "Évidemment," defined as a universal love song about someone who thrives after coming out of a complicated relationship, is a bit like a shimmering Uber commercial for a branch of a chain of lighting warehouses, but apparently the hat she wore conveyed the right signals to voters and La Zara soared up the betting charts, Her performance received quite a few compliments and was even described as a "competition surprise".
La Zara went on to say that while writing the song she was going through a difficult period in her life that included divorce, and the song was meant to convey a message of empowerment. "I was very alone at the time, but I felt a fire burning inside. Even though a lot of people told me there was no way I could make it and I didn't know how to sing or write music, I didn't listen to them. I said I would do it because I wanted to have fun."
Another sweet surprise related to La Zara is the short video of our Noa teaching her the dance moves of Unicorn when the two of them meet on the street, when it took Bella Zara more than one attempt to become a unicorn.
As for Le Zara's style, is it manufacturing, or catastrophic? There is no doubt that this is a singer whose presence on stage cannot be ignored, and her choice of unique outfits often includes hats that would surely make quite a few noble girls salivate. She herself says that her fashion style is influenced by her love for Audrey Hepburn, which she calls "classic and funny." Her drag queens friends, she said, are also a source of inspiration for her.
"She embodies the elegance and style of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn with a generous dose of Edith Piaf's sense of tragedy plus Lady Gaga's postmodernism, making her a Parisian disco queen," it said. In addition, she herself is quite a fan of Celine Dion and among the other singers who inspire her are Edith Piaf, Lana Del Rey and Madonna.
"I sing about my feelings," she said, "but at the end of the day it's always about my liberation, about my path between the woman I was and the woman I want to be." She added that she completely doesn't connect with influencer culture and believes in the good old methods of hard and organized work. Fingers crossed at home: her two Sphinx cats and her parrot.
