Leandro De Niro, grandson of actor Robert De Niro and son of actress Derna De Niro, has died, his mother confirmed. Like his famous grandfather and mother, Leandro was also an actor, with his last memorable appearance being alongside his mother in the 2018 film A Star Is Born starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.

Derna, the daughter of actress Diane Abbott ("Raging Bull"), who was married to De Niro from 1976 to 1988 (a marriage in which they had one son together and De Niro adopted Derna), confirmed her son's death in a heartbreaking post she shared Monday on her Instagram.
"My beautiful and beloved angel," Derna eulogized Leandro, who just celebrated his 19th birthday a week and a half ago. "I loved you beyond words and descriptions from the moment I felt you in my stomach," she wrote under a photo of her son. "You were the happiness, the heart, and everything that was pure and true in my life. I wish I was with you now. I don't know how to live without you, but I will try to continue spreading the love and light you gave me when you made me your mother," she wrote.

Derna, 51, who had Leandro with her ex-boyfriend, artist Carlos Mer, continued: "You were so loved and appreciated and I wish love alone could save you. I'm so sorry my boy. Rest in peace in eternal peace of the world," she concluded the post. Leandro's father did not write about his late son, but shared on his Instagram account a blackened photo underneath which accumulated many comments seeking to offer comfort in his difficult hour.
