Anger and distress due to difficulties in handing over apartments, due to severe shortage of foreign workers in the wet jobs in the construction industry.

A month ago we were informed that the Ministry of Housing is leading a dramatic decision to double the number of foreign workers in the industry, for the first time in many years, following the Corona crisis and due to the difficulty in getting workers.

Despite the joint declaration of the Ministers of Finance, Housing and Labor - everything is stuck and torpedoed.

Ministers Katz, Litzman and Shmuli announced a few weeks ago a significant increase in the number of foreign and Palestinian construction workers in Israel: 80,000 Palestinian workers and 32,500 foreign workers.

It was reported that these days, increasing the number of workers is critical to accelerating the real estate industry, both as a source of thousands of additional jobs and as an engine of economic growth for the economy.

Increasing the quota of workers in wet work will increase the number of workers in supportive work, including engineers, architects, electricians, glaziers, elevator installers and more.

In the years when there was an increase in the number of foreign workers, there was an increase in the number of Israeli workers.

In the coming years, following the increase in the population of the State of Israel, the market will face a severe shortage of supply of housing units, and apartment prices will rise dramatically.

Even today, despite the crisis, we are witnessing a rise in housing prices of 2-3% per month.

This figure indicates what is expected to happen in the future.

In view of the understanding of the reality, Minister Litzman immediately upon taking office, by pushing the operative bureaucracy in his office, promoted a policy change in an ascending outline.

This decision was coordinated between all the ministries concerned, including the Ministry of Finance.

Finance Minister Katz said that the construction industry is the locomotive of the economy, which will get the economy out of the recession and create many sources of employment for Israelis.

The Ministry of Labor also gave its consent, but qualified it and said that the desire is to check from year to year the scope of entry of Israeli workers into the industry.

This decision was supposed to be made a long time ago, but no government meetings have been held for a month, and the decision has been delayed.

Many workers leave the State of Israel due to the crisis and the desire to be with the family, even before the maximum deadline for their stay.

The Population Authority is making great efforts and has managed to bring in about 600 Ukrainian workers, but the number of outgoing workers exceeds the incoming number.

This is despite the fact that workers who went on vacation in their homeland before the outbreak of the crisis received permission to return to Israel.

The industry is having difficulty bringing in an additional 1,000 Chinese, due to China's concerns over the corona crisis.

The biggest problem is the expected departure of veteran Chinese workers, who were supposed to leave the State of Israel about 5 years ago, but who were delayed due to the arrival of the workers who will replace them.

This situation causes a lack of professional working hands in the active construction sites and difficulty in creating housing units.

The hope is that the corona crisis will disappear within a year, with the development of a vaccine, and the economy will emerge from the recession.

Many citizens will then apply to purchase apartments, and those who have already purchased will expect to receive them on time.
