Irschenberg - Actually, the Gasthof zum Moar in Wilparting was supposed to be demolished, rebuilt in the old style and converted into a sustainable gastronomy with overnight accommodation.

But the community of Irschenberg has now abandoned the idea of financing a new building itself.

On Monday evening, the local council adopted its budget for the current year.

This time without the four million euros set in previous years for the new building.

The reason can be found in the current economic situation.

The coronavirus, the pandemic and the associated lockdown have meant that the catering trade has been closed for months.

An entire industry is struggling to survive, as are the breweries, which therefore lack an important sales opportunity.

And it was at this point in time that the municipality had advertised the Gasthof zum Moar for lease.

Offers too low

The result was sobering, as Mayor Klaus Meixner (CSU) reported when our newspaper asked: “We received three offers from breweries, but that is not economically viable for us.” Because what was offered is far from the original Notions removed.

New building for gastro and hotel

As reported, the mayor Hans Schönauer, who died in 2019, had the vision of refinancing the new building of the traditional economy by leasing it to a brewery.

He relied on the popular location right next to the pilgrimage church of St. Marinus, which is one of the most photographed places of worship in Germany.

So the entire ensemble should remain protected in Irschenberg's hands without burdening the community's finances.

But that can no longer be implemented at the latest in the course of Corona.

What good is the best location if you are not allowed to open?

Lease now in focus

According to Meixner, the local council has agreed to examine other options.

There is a new building in long lease in the room.

This would have the advantage that the area would remain in municipal hands, but could be managed.

There would also be income for the community through the ground rent.

But that's not the only alternative.

According to Meixner, a resumption of the original catering business in the event of a new lease without a new building is also conceivable.

There is the catch that the concession has expired in the meantime.

You would have to apply for a new one, "and we don't yet know the conditions".

The once popular restaurant was closed more than three years ago.

In November 2017, the then host couple Marion Münchmeyer and Anian Köll threw in the towel because the municipality wanted to re-tender the lease.

Köll's parents, for whom the congregation had taken on a guarantee that had to be redeemed in financial difficulties, still live in the house today.

How things will continue with the traditional inn in Wilparting is currently open.

“We're back to the very beginning,” says Meixner.

“We now have to reorientate and look for a new path that is economically viable.” Despite everything, however, a sale is not planned.
