Jerry Douglas, best known as John Abbott in the successful and long-running series in which he played since 1982, has died at his home

At 88 and after a brief battle with the disease, actor Jerry Douglas, who played John Abbott in the successful soap opera "Restless Youth," passed away on Tuesday, his family confirmed last night (Wednesday) in a press release.

Douglas was born in 1932 to a Jewish family in Massachusetts to immigrant parents from Eastern Europe.

Game was not the first professional channel he turned to, and before he started starring on screen, he managed to complete a bachelor's degree in economics and go on to study law, from which he retired in favor of acting studies after eight months.

Over the years he has appeared on the small screen in various TV series, including "Mission Impossible," "Rockford Bags," "The Story of a Cop," "Melrose Place" and "Family in Disorder."

Douglas was also a successful singer and has performed in casinos and halls across the United States and Canada.

In 1982 he was cast in the most significant and well-known role in his career, John Abbott, head of the Abbott family and founder of the cosmetics corporation Zebo in the successful soap opera "Restless Young", a role he played until the end of his contract in 2006, but continued to appear as a ghost. After his character was disconnected from the resuscitation machine until his last appearance in 2016.

"Jerry came to the series in 1982 with an impressive list of credits in his resume. Our series was fortunate to have an actor of this level and introduce him to the audience as part of the iconic Abbott family. His contribution to the Abbott family's legacy as patriarch is still felt and will be greatly missed."
