Grushko: Washington's position on Russia's security proposals is decisive in determining NATO's decision on them

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko stressed today that the position of the United States on the security guarantees proposals submitted by Moscow will be decisive in determining the decision of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on those proposals.

“If we proceed from the fact that NATO operates on the basis of a collective consensus of opinion, the position of the United States will be decisive, of course,” Grushko told reporters, adding that “the main element is, of course, the strategic dialogue with the United States, and we have stated that. Moreover, we have declared that we have A negotiating team is ready at any moment to start working on the text of the draft agreement that we handed over to the Americans.”

Grushko made it clear that NATO did not communicate with Moscow about the proposals it submitted regarding security guarantees, stressing that Moscow's proposals regarding security guarantees do not include any hidden agendas.

He added that "the proposals have been clearly prepared and we are criticized because we are very open but proceed from the fact that we are at a risky turning point in international relations."

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister pointed out that the "open doors" policy contradicts the interests of NATO, because the accession of other countries to it will increase its weakness.

Grushko considered that the European Union's declaration of its readiness to discuss security issues in their current form means one thing, which is that Europe is completely under the control of the Alliance in this field.
