For several hours, France, as if dazed by the images of these flames which mercilessly devour the Landes forest, submerge the South and set Brittany ablaze, has been holding its breath.
Sovereign, the fire imposes its devastating dance according to the swirling winds.
Before him, the forests succumb.
Vacationers flee, paying homage, when the microphones are tense, to the mission of the firefighters whose greatness suddenly imposes itself on them.
How right they are!
We must wholeheartedly salute the courage and generosity of these men, mostly volunteers, who braved the blaze and the furnace to save lives and preserve property .
Barely forty-eight hours ago, one of them perished in the fight against the fire, in Spain... Three years ago, the whole world could see them lead the assault against the flames that threatened Notre-Dame, guardian angels of the cathedral whose towers, facade and works of art were thus saved.
