The September 1st routine will not be violated, but the agreement will not improve the education situation in Israel Israel today

2022-08-31T19:09:59.345Z

The real problem in the education system is the human quality - it's no secret that it's too easy to get accepted to study teaching • Most teachers have become "officials" and are offended when one of them tries to get bigger • It's time to raise the bar

And once again you can breathe easy, an agreement was reached between the Ministry of Finance and the Teachers' Union.

And the September 1st routine will not be violated.

In the morning they will broadcast "A child goes to school", and Israeli parents will shed a tear and be free to do what they did before, with only a few hours of freedom from the children.

But does anyone really think that this agreement will improve the state of education in Israel?

The answer is no.

Tomorrow morning Hades, Hali and my uncle will not wake up early and will not be excited about the new year.

All of them are excellent educators who were expelled from the education system this year.

They left the system not only because of the conditions, but because of something that is too little talked about - the human quality of the education staff.

It's no secret that it's too easy to get accepted into teaching and education studies.

For years, the image was established that it was an ideal workplace for those who wanted to return home early and "raise the children".

The result is an education system filled with bureaucrats and teaching clerks at a too low level.

I am not generalizing.

Above all, it is important to emphasize that there are tens of thousands of wonderful educated, loving and committed education men and women in the system.

This is the miraculous miracle that saves her from total collapse.

But anyone who has spent a few years in teachers' rooms knows very well that there are men and women in education, but there are too many clerks and clerks who between miracles wait for the savior's bell to go home.

The problem is not only the lack of commitment of the teaching officials.

but the "school climate" they create.

As a young teacher committed to fixing the world, I quickly learned that the cottage and crisp conversations contain quite a bit of gossip and troublemaking.

That's how I found out what happens to a teacher who dares to grow his head and try something new in his class.

"It's not fair," the officials whined to the principal, "the students want to study with him, they heard from their friends that his class is having fun."

Without fundamentally changing the training method of the teaching staff, education in Israel will not improve.

The teacher training process must undergo a deep reform in Israel.

In the current situation there is no difference between male and female teachers who come out of the most prestigious universities, compared to colleges of education that will accept anything in a heartbeat.

In order to improve the status of the teacher, one needs to create intellectual authority for him at the same time as improving his economic status.

Think of the outcry that would arise if, due to the current shortage of doctors, they decided to lower the admission threshold to the teaching threshold.

Parents who stand in front of a doctor teacher in her field, will appreciate her as a professional authority and the children will also feel this appreciation.

The admissions bar needs to rise higher, the training of the teaching staff needs to undergo strict unification, the certification tests need to come out of the hands of the teaching institutions and be external and uniform and just like legal practice.

And the training process must be more committed and longer, between five and seven years.

The teachers should start teaching at least with a master's degree and preferably as doctors in their field.

The years of training should be used for real practical training in schools.

Because unlike teaching materials, education is a very practical profession that cannot be learned in theory.

In the current situation the teachers are sent to the schools to deal with the problems and difficulties alone.

Furthermore.

Beginning teachers are afraid to share their difficulties and hardships so that it will not be used against them in the teacher's room poker game, is it any wonder that most teachers leave the profession after one year?

The first year of teaching should take place fully under supervision, as part of the teachers' training years and with close supervision.

These changes are needed immediately.

Because contrary to the dictates of the time, education shapes the future of all of us at any given moment.
