The Bavarian Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger visits the Geretsried center.

He is impressed by the many innovations on Karl-Lederer-Platz.

Geretsried – Children with hockey sticks romp on Karl-Lederer-Platz on Thursday afternoon, an excavator drives across Egerlandstraße.

And in between stands Huber Aiwanger, being photographed by passers-by and looking at everything with interest.

During his visit to Geretsried, the Economics Minister is shown how the new center has developed.

The new buildings, the shop concept, the underground car park, even the placement of benches can be explained to the Free Voter politician by City Hall boss Michael Müller (CSU) - and he immediately brings in new ideas.

The Deputy Prime Minister believes that shady benches between the Sparkasse tower and Café Waldmann could liven up the area.

During the short tour, Mayor Müller confirms that the new openings of Aldi and Rossmann should increase footfall in the center.

Grocery and drugstores are different from many specialist shops that are independent of online trade.

Müller describes it as the “backbone of an inner city”. “People still go to the local butcher or baker,” agrees the minister.

The prerequisite is that the shops are easy to reach.

That's why Aiwanger likes that the whole place is undermined by an underground car park.

"If it's attractive, it'll be accepted." Deputy Mayor Sonja Frank (free voters) says she doesn't know of any garage that's so well lit and offers such comfortable parking spaces.

An advantage: the square is traffic-calmed.

This increases the quality of stay in the center.

Thursday afternoon shows how many people appreciate that.

Families, children and couples enjoy the shade on the benches.

Aiwanger chats with a young mother who is sitting next to the dialogue sculpture.

He sees the games offered by the sponsoring association for youth and social work, which enlivens the large squares in the city with them.

Surrounded by photographers, Aiwanger himself struts across the square on stilts.

After that, he buys two books for his children in the bookshop while the entourage from the Ministry and City Hall waits patiently.

Hubert Aiwanger is convinced of the revitalization of Geretsried's city centre

"You can see that the city has put a lot of thought into it," says Aiwanger after the official appointment.

"Nothing is left to chance here." The revitalization of downtown Geretsried, including large-scale new buildings, is "doomed to succeed".

Mayor Müller smiles.

Meanwhile, the children continue to play hockey without famous stilt walkers strolling through the field.
