Poste, 700 oaks for Dante, projects in 70 small municipalities

2020-01-10T18:59:19.528Z

Seven hundred oaks for the seven hundred years after Dante's death will be planted in the Polesine, in Ariano, where, according to legend, a large secular oak tree had helped the poet find his way home. It is one of the projects that the Italian Post Office will support in 70 small municipalities in 2021 to celebrate the poet's seventh centenary. There will also be exhibitions and meetings dedicated to Francesca da Rimini and the reinterpretations that have transformed her from Dante's sinner for love to a symbol of women's self-determination, and also a flash mob with readings in the five continents. Didactic and technological parks will be opened, and from the arts it will focus on science with the analysis of the section of Dante's oak, which collapsed in 2013, which will help to study climate change in the Po Delta. The initiatives will also reach small centers that are not never been visited by Dante, as Pietravairano (in the province of Caserta) who dedicated a project to his memory based on stone as an element of Dante's hell. Thus becomes reality the commitment made by the CEO of Poste Italiane, Matteo Del Fante, with the Minister for Cultural Heritage and Activities, Dario Franceschini, who had proposed to him to participate in the celebrations for Alighieri at the meeting of Poste with almost 4 thousand mayors of small municipalities, last October. After receiving Poste's support, Franceschini re-launched with an appeal to the entire business world to join in the memory of the great poet. The minister quoted trains, planes, TV: "I expect to see Dante everywhere", he said, while asking Rai to produce "something to be circulated even outside Italy". "Dante Alighieri is probably the most important cultural figure in the history of our country and still expresses, and probably will in the future for the whole of Europe, a cultural bulwark that has no equal. So we could not miss the opportunity to collaborate in the initiatives that our country will put in place to remember the memory and relevance, today even more relevant than ever, of Dante ", said Del Fante who recalled the commemorative stamps printed, in lire, on the occasion of the last centenary, in 1921. "We have always paid very special attention to small municipalities and we try to support them with various initiatives. Collaborating and working with institutions, both central and local, is truly the heart of our mission", underlined the president of Poste Italiane, Bianca Maria Farina. Alongside the projects supported by Poste, the national committee for celebrations received 320 proposals, also from abroad, which trace, retracing Dante's exile, a geography of the country far from the great courts "more real, more popular and more more adherent to the fabric of the territory ", as explained by the president of the committee Carlo Ossola.
