"I went to her and just said, 'I know you know what's going on and I know they were abusing you,' because a bigger boy was abusing her," Simpson told Chris Pratt's wife.

"He was always there in the house too, so he never touched me, but he abused her and she came with me and did things to me and so, in many ways I felt bad for her and was allowing the abuse to occur."

The celebrity, who is now married to Eric Johnson and is the mother of three children, also let the woman know that in her heart he held no grudge against her.

"'I just want you to know that I forgive you and that I really don't care about being around you anymore, but I want you to know that I know what happened between us and that I'm not going to live in denial about it,'" she recalled saying.

As for why the singer confronted her abuser eight years ago, Simpson said she doesn't remember exactly how things went, but noted that it happened after her divorce from Nick Lachey .

"I was celibate at the time and I was on this trip to explore myself and I knew I couldn't go ahead without warning him that I wasn't going to leave this unsaid," Simpson explained on the podcast . "I kept him quiet for too long."

"I knew that if I was honest with her, it would clear my conscience," she said. "I even sent him the book and said I hope it brings him healing."
