2020-12-18T18:31:54.234Z

In 24 hours 17,992 new cases and 674 victims. 10% positivity rate. Rt index rises to 0.86 nationwide. Three regions at high risk, in only 5 low (ANSA)

"The incidence is decreasing, 166 per 100 thousand inhabitants, but it is still very high. We are still far from the safety threshold

. In addition, the distribution of the incidence by region is very diversified. he is under 50 but all age groups are affected ".

This was stated by the president of the Higher Institute of Health (Iss), Silvio Brusaferro, at the press conference at the Ministry of Health on the analysis of the data of the Regional Monitoring of the Control Room.

The press conference - THE VIDEO

"There is a slow decrease in the occupancy of hospital beds, both in the medical area and in the intensive care area. For the intensive there are 4 regions that exceed the probability of going beyond the critical threshold at 30 days 30% seat occupancy.

"People with multiple diseases if in a normal phase they find support, where there is a pandemic this means that these groups of the population are more at risk and have the highest probability of dying. Hence the importance of protecting this. headband.

"We have a Rt that grows and in some regions it grows more and exceeds 1. Rt is the first indicator to move and then is followed by new cases, hospitalizations and deaths

. So Rt in regrowth is an element of serious concern because it means that the transmission of the infection is recovering, added Brusaferro

There are three regions with the Rt contagiosity index equal to 1 or higher than 1 according to the weekly monitoring Iss-Ministry of Health, for the period 7-13 December, updated to 16 December.

These are Molise (1.18), Veneto (1.07) and Lombardy (1).

The lowest value refers to Valle d'Aosta and Campania which record 0.63.

"Today's data indicate that we are in a situation of stability and stabilization and we are not able to go below a certain threshold. It also seems that new entrants to intensive care are stable and this makes us think that it will be a bit difficult to make decrease the overload in intensive care unless the incidence is reduced. Deaths are also stable. There is stabilization in the number of positives, deaths and ICU admissions. Gianni Rezza said during the ISS press conference

Rezza hoped that the

school could reopen on 7 January.

'This - he underlined - is one of the objectives.

Sacrifices were asked for this, then the epidemiological situation will also be assessed at the local level.

THE MONITORING OF THE ISS

"The incidence in Italy still remains too high and the impact of the epidemic is still sustained in most of the country. This situation does not allow for a relaxation of the measures adopted in recent weeks and even requires a strengthening of the same in some areas of the country. ".

This can be read in the draft of the usual monitoring of the IS, relating to the week 7 - 13 December 2020 (data updated to 16 December 2020)

"During the monitoring week, a moderate or high risk continues to be observed in most Regions with only five Regions at low risk of an uncontrolled and unmanageable epidemic. This trend requires rigor in the adoption and compliance with measures, avoiding a relaxation in the behaviors ".

In particular, Lazio, Liguria and Veneto are classified as high risk.

Thirteen Regions / PAs are classified at Moderate risk, of which 2 (Marche and PA Trento) have a high probability of progressing at high risk in the next month if the current transmissibility remains unchanged.

Five regions are classified as low risk.

In the period 25 November-8 December 2020, the average transmissibility index Rt calculated on symptomatic cases was equal to 0.86, an increase compared to the 0.82 of last week's monitoring.

Point RT values lower than 1 are found in 16 Regions.

"For the first time there is a countertrend signal in the Rt index of transmissibility compared to the previous week in the whole country, with the return of three Regions to a transmissibility compatible with a type 2 scenario (Lazio, Lombardy and Veneto)".

This is achieved in a European context characterized by a new increase in the number of cases in some European countries (such as the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany)

"It is complex to predict the impact that the Christmas period could have, however the increased mobility and interpersonal interaction typical of this season's sociability could determine a significant increase in the transmission of SARS-CoV-2. In the situation described, this it would lead to a consequent rapid increase in cases to potentially higher levels compared to what was observed in November in a context in which the impact of the epidemic on healthcare workers, services and the population is still very high ", writes the ISS again.

Although a decrease in incidence has been observed nationwide over the past 14 days, the value is "still far from levels that would allow for a full nationwide recovery of case identification and tracing of their contacts. This approach showed the first signs of criticality when the national value exceeded 50 cases per 100,000 in seven days ".
