Recall of sweets: Traces of peanuts can cause "life-threatening symptoms" - even in children
"
Peanuts
are one of the most common triggers of a food allergy that can already occur in small children," says doctor Dr.
Eike Eymers.
Allergies to peanuts
are not uncommon.
However, the symptoms are very different.
"Itching and burning of the lip, tongue and oral mucosa" or "skin irritation such as hives or an atopic dermatitis attack" can result.
"Diarrhea, nausea and vomiting are less common," informs the AOK.
But
severe symptoms
such as “shortness of breath, drop in blood pressure and even cardiovascular shock (anaphylactic shock)” are possible - even in a small group of children with peanut allergy.
As with other
food allergies
, symptoms
do not only appear when a certain dose of the substance is consumed.
"Even micrograms are enough to cause life-threatening symptoms," says the German Allergy and Asthma Association.
How strong the reaction is varies from person to person.
Not infrequently, children are also affected by recalls.
Especially when the affected products are baby items.
