The fifth edition of the Amazon Innoavation Award opens in the name of environmental sustainability, the competition created by the American giant in collaboration with some of the main Italian universities to stimulate students to put their knowledge and creativity into play, giving life to original and innovative solutions.

This year students are called to challenge each other on the development of a project focused on sorting depots and last mile deliveries, identifying new solutions to make processes more environmentally sustainable, in line with the company's commitment to CO2 emissions ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement. Since its launch in 2016, the initiative has involved over 1,300 Italian students and this year there are three universities competing: Politecnico di Milano, University of Rome Tor Vergata and, for the first time, the Polytechnic of Bari. The finalist projects will be assessed by Amazon managers on the basis of feasibility, scalability, customer impact and applicability of the proposed technologies. The presentation of the contest was attended by Gabriele Sigismondi, Head of Amazon Italia Logistics, and Marco Ferrara, Amazon Italia Logistics Senior Manager, who presented the theme chosen for the new edition to the students, connected online, also showing them the objectives and the company activity. In recent years, Amazon "has focused a lot on environmental sustainability", said Ferrara, and "in 2019 it contributed to the foundation of the Climate Pledge, a commitment that provides for the reduction of CO2 emissions by 2040 and the use of energy at 100% renewable by 2030 ".
