In the last 24 hours,
5,328 new cases
and another
194 deaths
from coronavirus
were confirmed
in Argentina.
Thus -after the strong impact of the second wave- the
downward trend
of COVID-19 infections
is consolidated
: the country reached
the lowest average of new infections in 2021
.
The data comes from the health report published by the Ministry of Health this Wednesday, based on the information provided by the provinces in the last 24 hours.
This week, always according to official reports, the daily average of positive cases hit a
new low
for this year:
5,363
-with figures from August 25 to 31-.
Thus it pierced the base of 5,441 registered on February 17, weeks before the start of the second wave.
On Sunday, in fact, there had been the lowest daily report of positives in 14 months: they were
2,073
(the lowest antecedent is from June 21 of last year, when 1,581 had been reported).

These numbers are far from the peak in May, when an average of
33,171 infected per day
was reached
, the sixfold
.
And you have to go back to mid-December last year to find an average of less than 5,000: prior to the summer exodus, on December 13 it was 4,946.
With today's data, Argentina is close to 5.2 million infections and 112 thousand deaths since the start of the pandemic.
Despite this slowdown, it remains the
8th
country with the highest number of positive cases detected since the start of the health crisis, behind the United States, India, Brazil, Russia, the United Kingdom, France and Turkey.
And the
12th
among those with the most fatalities registered, according to the Worldomoters site.
The average number of deaths reported per day is
143
- also with data from August 25 to 31.
It remains well below the record of 603 recorded on June 11.

Vaccines
This Wednesday, more than
2.6 million Sinopharm vaccines
arrive in the country
on two flights.
The first arrived at dawn, with 1,448,000 doses, while another 1,230,000 are expected at night.
The operation for the reception of serums against covid-19 produced in China will be completed on Friday, when a third shipment with 570,000 is expected to land.
According to the latest announcement from the Ministry of Health,
the first 260,000
of the 580,000 Pfizer vaccines planned for September
will arrive in the next two weeks
.
More than 60% of the population started their vaccination scheme against covid-19, but only half completed it.

These items will be used to complete
heterologous schemes
-that combine different brands- and to start the
vaccination of 17-year-old adolescents
without risk factors.
In addition, it is expected that between September 5 and 16,
400,000 single doses of CanSino will arrive
to be applied to the population considered "difficult to access": homeless people, migrants, refugees and other dispersed populations.
As of this morning, 48,148,449 serums had been distributed to the provinces, of which
5.3 million remain to be applied
.
A total of
28,005,793
people received at least one vaccine.
This represents
61.14%
of the population, out of the 45,808,747 inhabitants estimated by INDEC this year.
According to a report released by the Government, this represents 84.7% of the population over 18 years of age.
Within this total of vaccinated, the
14,786,884
people who also received the second dose with which the immunization scheme is completed are included.
That is,
32.28%
of the population.
Regional study
The Ministry of Health also reported that Argentina will participate in a
regional study of the Pan American Health Organization
to find out the effectiveness of vaccination against the coronavirus.
Brazil, Chile and Colombia will also take part.
In addition to the health portfolio, the National Administration of Laboratories and Institutes of Health “Dr.
Carlos G. Malbrán ”, the Posadas National Hospital and the National Hurlingham University (UNAHUR).
"The objective is to add more information, local evidence that has an impact on decision-making, not only for our country but also for the region," said Minister Carla Vizzotti.
The general objective of the study is to estimate the effectiveness of vaccines against covid-19 to
prevent hospitalizations and deaths
in people over 18 years of age.
Then, at the invitation of PAHO, each country presents a particular proposal for specific research.
The Argentine team is designing three sub-studies.
The first is a case-control study to estimate the effectiveness of vaccination to prevent hospitalization and mortality in people over 18 years of age globally, according to the variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the type of vaccine and comorbidities selected from the data and samples of the Posadas Hospital.
In the second design, with population bases, the effectiveness of vaccination to prevent mortality by type of vaccine, age group and time of application will be studied.
Finally, the third design is a cohort study to measure the risk of suffering from COVID-19 and the effectiveness of vaccines in certain groups such as dialysis people, people with disabilities, living with HIV, with tuberculosis, and teaching and non-teaching workers.
This design also includes the evaluation of the effectiveness of vaccines against COVID-19 to prevent infection and mortality in pregnant women and people belonging to certain risk groups.
