According to media reports, the international airport of Palma de Mallorca suspended all take-offs and landings on Friday evening due to passengers on the runway. The airport operator Aena wrote on Twitter that air traffic had been suspended due to an incident when passengers disembarked. Several approaching passenger planes, including at least one flight from Germany, had to be rerouted to other airports such as Menorca or Ibiza, as indicated on the Aena website. Machines that were ready to start could not take off.
The people on the airfield of Son Sant Joan were passengers on a plane operated by the airline Royal Air Maroc, wrote the newspaper "Diario de Mallorca".
The plane landed on Mallorca in an unscheduled manner because a passenger was uncomfortable on the way to Turkey, reported »El País«.
While an ambulance was expected to arrive, a group of ten to twenty passengers left the plane, ran across the airfield and then went into hiding.
The police are looking for them.
Why people left the plane was initially unknown.
