There will be no icy temperatures on New Year's Eve this year: In Germany, exceptionally mild weather is expected in the middle of the week, as the German Weather Service (DWD) predicted on Tuesday.
"New Year's Eve will most likely be mild and therefore frost-free," said DWD meteorologist Robert Hausen of the dpa news agency.
As early as Thursday, the low »Sebastian« will bring very mild Atlantic air to Germany, in the west and south maximum values of 12 to 16 or 17 degrees are expected.
"It cannot be ruled out that local December records will be broken in North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Hesse," said Hausen.
According to the information in Darmstadt, these are 18.1 degrees (from December 16, 1989), in Saarbrücken at 18.2 degrees (December 4, 1953) and in Cologne-Stammheim at 17.5 degrees (December 26, 2015).
At the turn of the year and beyond, mild Atlantic air will continue to determine the weather, said Hausen.
It will be warm, but it will remain cloudy

According to the forecasts, it will rain for a long time, especially from the Black Forest to the Alps.

Before the mild weather, there is another frost on Wednesday
But before this mild end of the year, according to the DWD, there is still a local risk of ice on Wednesday night in the northeast from Oderbruch to Western Pomerania.
On Wednesday there would be a lot of clouds in the sky, in the northeast it would stay dry longer, otherwise there would be light to moderate rain, which also lasts longer between the Black Forest and Allgäu.
When the snow line rises significantly up to the high altitudes, there is a thaw.
The maximum values would be on Wednesday northeast of the Elbe at 3 to 7 degrees, otherwise at mild 9 to 14 degrees.
