Exhibitions: history and architecture of the 'Capannoni' of Parma

PARMA - The Governor's Palace hosts the exhibition 'I Capannoni a Parma.

Stories of people and cities', curated by the Movement Studies Center and the University with the contribution of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage, the Region and the Municipality as part of the activities of Parma Capital of Culture 2020 + 21.

The exhibition traces the history of the Sheds by inserting it into that of the city before and after their construction in the Thirties, to understand the reasons that led the Fascist regime to build them, what they became for the people who lived there and the difficulties that the democratic administrations of after the war they met in shooting them down.

    Even today, in the Parmesan jargon, the term "Shed" is used: many use it but few, especially among the youngest, know its origin, linked to a specific moment in the history of Parma, to the gutting of the Oltretorrente from part of the fascist regime and the consequent displacement of many families in ultra-popular blocks of flats in areas outside the city center: the 'Capannoni', so nicknamed for their hut shape.

In addition to a rich photographic and documentary section reproduced on large panels - reconstructed through extensive research conducted in public archives and private collections - in one space of the exhibition is projected the video 'Capanòn' by Roberto Azzali which in the past decades has collected various testimonies of people who lived in the warehouses.
