Rows of two-story seats, "floating" seats with unique volumes or passenger compartments that look like they are underwater.

These are just some of the inspirational programs recently unveiled at the 2022 Crystal Cabin Awards.

This ceremony, which takes place once a year, provides a great opportunity to take a peek at what may be expected of us, but also provides an exciting cushion of action for designers who are invited to present their innovative works.

One of the most spectacular examples is called Elevatem, and it was unveiled by the design company Teague, which collaborated with NORDAM airline from the United States.

The company's designs feature cabinets defined as "with comfort as in a home living room," including "floating" seats.

This refers to an innovative concept in which the seats are not fixed to the floor of the passenger compartment but to its walls, thus allowing a certain freedom of movement of the seat in space.

Another advantage of the innovative concept: moving the seats in space may also increase the space available on the plane.

These seats also carry internal storage space.

Two-story - for a flat bed

Another interesting concept is two-story seating, called Airsleeper.

The concept was presented by the design company MMILLENNIUMM.

Although this is not the first time such a concept has been introduced, in this case passengers are invited to convert their seats into a flat bed.

Compartment with rounded sofa, table and touch screens

The British airline Virgin Atlantic has introduced its new seating concept in the style of The Booth (similar to separate seating areas in restaurants).

This concept is already applied today in one of the company's aircraft, and is used by the first class.

This compartment has a comfortable rounded sofa on which can sit two passengers, a table and touch screens.

Lufthansa Technik, part of the German aviation group Lufthansa, has unveiled the design of a private jet called Explorer.

The main feature of the aircraft is a screen ceiling that displays underwater scenes or views of an urban skyline.

The Sun reports that at the Crystal Awards, there are several categories, including cabin concept, cabin systems, health and safety, digital services, materials and components, passenger comfort, sustainable cabin and more.

A jury of 28 experts will examine the concepts that reached the final, and these will be presented and announced at the Hamburg Air Show, which will be held on June 14 this year.

Last year, the exhibition featured designs and concepts that include services that clean independently, lighting to prevent flying (jet lag) and more.
