Piazza dei Mestieri opens in Milan

.

The open day and the ribbon cutting ceremony with the Mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, will be held on April 29th, scheduled for 12.30.

WHAT IS PIAZZA DEI MESTIERI

The Piazza dei Mestieri

was born in Turin in 2004

, from a dream of a group of friends at the time of university.

At the origin also the early death of a friend, Marco Andreoni, and the desire to build something together for the good of young people.

Active in Turin (since 2004), in Catania (since 2009) and in Milan (since 2022), over the years the Piazza dei Mestieri has successfully involved thousands of girls and boys (over 5,000 in 2021 alone) proving to be a valid and replicable model. able to adapt in different territories to respond to the ever new needs of the young people who live there.

It is a model of social entrepreneurship, inclusion and education, but above all a space for young people in difficulty in the city, in which to promote, through training, work and culture, the development of a neighborhood, generational and ethnic encounter and restart of youth employment.

A model that in Milan already sees the involvement of realities such as ITA2030, the Archè Foundation, the Operitage Association, the world of sport, businesses, neighboring parishes, and many others.

THE NEW PIAZZA DEI CRAFTS IN MILAN

The new Piazza dei Mestieri in Milan is located in a 3000sqm building in via Miramare 15 (a side street of Viale Monza), specially renovated thanks to the support of the Cariplo Foundation, Enel Cuore Onlus, private donors and companies and a loan from Intesa Sanpaolo through the third value platform.

The renovation, for a total value of 2 million euros, has made it possible to create laboratories, recreational spaces, a bar and a restaurant in this space that will host multiple activities that already in 2023 will involve at least 1,000 people, mostly young people. with particular attention to those who live in situations of socio-economic hardship.

THE OBJECTIVE IS TO INVOLVE THE YOUNG PEOPLE OF MILAN

The Piazza dei Mestieri in Milan is aimed in particular at the young people of Municipalities 2 and 9 of the Lombard capital.

The initiative aims to reduce early school leaving, also favoring the work placement of NEETs (people not engaged in study, work and training).

The social entrepreneurship model also wants to enhance the apprenticeship, the dissemination of culture and sport among young people.

SOME PROJECTS ALREADY ACTIVATED

Already today there are dozens of girls and boys who have started living in the spaces of the new Piazza in Milan: kids in waiter's uniform serving coffees in a bar open to the public, others, already graduates, who are setting up a soundstage and they do postproduction.

Some young people, then, are learning how to do a wavy fold and others who are acquiring the technique for manicure.

Some kids, who have just left the eighth grade behind, are trying their hand at digital language.

Tutoring and coaching were also activated for 250 young people and 150 adults;

activities to support school pathways to combat the phenomenon of early school leaving (80 children expected in 2023) and integration of foreigners, with language courses and workshops (50 children expected in 2023).

Furthermore, cultural activities - such as musical productions, reviews and exhibitions of young artists, production of theatrical performances for a total of about 50 events in 2023 - and sports activities that allow a balanced growth of the young and encourage socialization (expected 200 children in the 2023).

Finally, educational activities are planned, with 12 training courses for 260 young people (which will become 400 in 2023) who recover the tradition of traditional crafts - such as catering and personal care - and innovative - such as the field of technology information and communication.

A MODEL REPLICABLE ALSO IN OTHER CITIES

The Piazza dei Mestieri is a replicable model, which adapts to individual territories, and is an experience twinned with realities of Belo Horizonte, Caracas, and soon also with Los Angeles.

In fact, in Milan, spaces and activities follow those of the Piazze dei Mestieri already opened in Turin and Catania, which, in 2021 alone, involved over 5,000 young people.

"In recent years, the Piazza dei Mestieri has involved thousands of young people, who in many cases come from situations of economic and social hardship", explains

Dario Odifreddi

, president of the Piazza dei Mestieri, who explains: "The method is to do with. The model it can generate a community in an innovative logic of welfare community, in which young people are the protagonists, flanked by adults who solicit their freedom and their commitment ".

Cristiana Poggio

, vice president of Piazza dei Mestieri, says: "The Piazza dei Mestieri is a story of stories, now thousands, made up of young people who have found their way and also some defeats. And we are immensely happy, proud and enthusiastic to see today this story will grow and be enriched by a new adventure in Milan ".

Andrea Lecce, head of the Impact department of Intesa Sanpaolo, commented: "We are really happy to have supported this new important initiative through our Terzo Valore platform, which made it possible to collect 201,000 euros of donations and 142,000 euros of loans from companies and individuals; Intesa Sanpaolo will finance an additional amount for its part to reach the total amount of 900,000 euros ".

"We support Piazza dei Mestieri because it is an experience that has proved capable of putting young people's aspirations and desires into play, opening up new possibilities for them to express their potential", said Giovanni Fosti, president of the Cariplo Foundation.

Michele Crisostomo, president of Enel and Enel Cuore Onlus, underlines instead that "Piazza dei Mestieri in Milan is a virtuous example to ensure that no one is left behind".
