Four escaped kangaroos occupied the police, residents and circus workers on Lake Constance on Sunday night.
The marsupials from the circus Alessio, which was visiting Überlingen, hopped to a gas station, through a residential area and across an empty parking lot.
According to a spokesman, concerned witnesses contacted the police by 911 and in person to report what they had seen.
The animals were "probably too bored on the circus grounds early on Sunday morning," the officials suspected in a press release.
However, the outliers did not get particularly far.
Officials and circus workers recaptured the animals after about an hour.
How the quartet managed to escape from the circus grounds is still unclear.
