Every once in a while we get a sad and painful reminder of the disappearance of the symbols of the old world, in favor of chains and brands of the new world.

Cafes of yesteryear are a good example of this.

If Tel Avivians had the beloved and mythical "Orna and Ella" on Tel Aviv's Shenkin Street, which to this day, they mourn for their class, their brothers from the east, who are not residents of Givatayim, had the Viola Cafe on Shenkin Givatayim Street.

Although the original Viola Cafe, located on the junction between Knesset Street and Shenkin Street in the city, was closed a few years ago, the second branch, which opened 4 years later, in 2000, on the same street, is not far from Oved's Sabih (another city symbol). ) And earned the nickname "Little Viola" among the city's residents remained stable and solid all these years, until the last few days.

Cafe Viola, named after Viola Goren, who founded the cafe, with her life partner, Danny, in 1996, was the first neighborhood cafe in the city, which has since become a major entertainment hub.

Viola passed away suddenly, in 2016, when she was only 57.

In recent years we have tried at Viola Cafe, to innovate and refresh the menu, and there was even a momentary association with chef Jalal Salam, who built a menu for the place with Arab touches.

In place of Cafe Viola, a branch of the Roldin chain will soon open, which symbolizes more than anything the words with which we opened the article.

In the city's Facebook groups, in which they wondered what happened to the place, many residents got mad at the news.

On the windows of the enclosed space, is written in large "Thank you" with a drawing of a heart.
