From Geula Even-Sa'ar to Amit Segal's brother • The connection between politicians and the media has never felt so strong

The warm family connection between the Cuomo brothers was closely known to CNN viewers.

At the height of the Corona plague, younger brother Chris Cuomo (who hosted a daily news program on Prime Time) used to have authoritative and light-hearted interviews with his older brother Andrew, then serving as governor of New York.

The two stabbed each other on the broadcast, trying not to talk politics, but the conflict of interest hovered over them hugely.

In the end, the Kuomo Brotherhood shattered their faces.

If in the past the journalist, whose content dealt with political intrigue, managed to maneuver on screen between the scandals in which his political brother became entangled - then when allegations of sexual harassment shook Andrew's chair, it was already difficult to ignore the interests and charlatanism that leaked from the screen.

When the harassment affair exploded in 2021, the governor was forced to resign from his public office, while Chris acted behind the scenes to whitewash the allegations against his brother.

He pressured his fellow journalists to reduce the coverage and importance, and also tried to blackmail them with information.

It was only after a public outcry and media investigations that the veteran presenter was fired from CNN.

Some are convinced that such a conflict of interest can be waved with the help of a declaration of "due diligence", but this is not a solution.

After all, at the base of the connection between government and the media is symbiosis - it feeds on it.

There are many similarities between them, because both sides act in accordance with public relations and power, see themselves as public messengers and want more influence.

That is to say, politicians need the media to grow, and the media must politicians to survive.

Thus, when relatives are involved, the business becomes complex and convoluted.

This week, Arnon Segal, the brother of political correspondent Amit Segal, announced his candidacy in the primaries of religious Zionism.

I read about it on the reporter's Twitter, and I also heard him announce it in Rafi Reshef's studio when they had a discussion about what was happening in the party in question.

Segal admitted that the conflict of interest did not allow him to respond to the hearing, but responded nonetheless.

Because why should Segal refrain from intervening, when in the corresponding channel Michael Hauser Tov regularly sits on Sharon Gal's panel and airs speculation on the standard of a political reporter, who is also the son of MK Zvika Hauser.

This month, Geula Even-Saar recalled declaring her conflict of interest, after half a year of keeping a diary of here 11 in parallel with her husband's tenure as justice minister.

Now, because of the election, the corporation has put it on hold.

Every year it is re-frozen and then thawed back to serve news and current affairs.

Immediate elections, which means that satire on television must be.

Whereas thus, Network 13 has recently been in contact with Lior Schlein about his return to the screen, and perhaps soon the transport minister's partner will return to whipping his son's political partners.

This will help Schlein return to consciousness, and will certainly not hurt Merav Michaeli's voter base.

Meanwhile, Rainbow puts the "Next Star" chips on Mickey Zohar's son, who auditioned first this week and made signs that he intends to go far in this reality.

The more successful he is, the more father Mickey will get himself more mainstream interviews, in which he will talk mostly about music and family and less about power, money and respect.

The mixing of television and politics is detrimental to both sides.

After all, why would someone's media career be harmed just because of a family member, what are they to blame?

The blame lies in the deep connection created between politicians and the media, which has probably never been so strong.

Just as you do not mix oil with water, just as you do not combine business and pleasure, so it is very worthwhile to leave the family out of the problematic equation that connects politics with the media.
