Fires: volunteer dies crushed by a tree in Friuli

(ANSA) - PREPOTTO, 21 JUL - A volunteer fire-fighting volunteer of the Civil Protection was crushed by a tree during the extinguishing operations of a fire in Prepotto (Udine).

   According to a reconstruction, the woman was carrying out an inspection, with the fire now extinguished, when she was hit by a plant damaged by the flames.


    The death occurred instantly.

Investigations by the Carabinieri of Cividale.


   The victim is Elena Lo Duca, she was 56 years old and was the coordinator of the Prepotto Civil Protection team.

She was a role that she had also been assigned to her due to her great experience in the police forces: she was an assistant chief of police at the Cividale police station.


   He lived in Udine.

Condolences and maximum closeness were expressed by the governor of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, Massimiliano Fedriga, and by the deputy governor with responsibility for civil protection, Riccardo Riccardi, who reached the site of the accident together with the mayor of Prepotto, Mariaclara Forte, to testify his closeness to the relatives of the victim, to the municipal administration and to colleagues from the Municipal Civil Protection Group.


    The woman leaves her husband and daughter.

She had been awarded the knighthood in 2021 for her constant commitment within the Civil Protection.
