Flat shoes, black trousers, a blouse apparently rolled up thoughtlessly, loose hair, no jewelry, subtle make-up: Olena Selenska is sitting on marble steps, her arms on her knees, her hands clasped, her eyes fixed on the viewer of the picture.
There are many texts dealing with Volodymyr Zelenskyy's wife, as well as many photos of the president's wife.
But this isn't just a portrait - it's the cover of Vogue, the world's most influential fashion magazine.
Taken by star photographer Annie Liebovitz.
At first glance, it may seem surprising, such a, well, fashionably little eye-catching picture in the fashion bible par excellence.
But Vogue is also considered a canvas for people of the time - and their history.
Some first ladies from pop and politics have already been featured by »Vogue«: Jill Biden and Michelle Obama, for example, Beyoncé and Rihanna.
For the upcoming cover story and its pictures, Vogue traveled to Kyiv and spoke to Olena Selenska and her husband.
Star photographer Leibovitz, best known for her glamorous pictures of celebrities, but also for her poignant images from Sarajevo, which was plagued by the civil war, provided the photos of life with the war - and the fight against it.
"As the war in Ukraine enters a new critical phase, the country's First Lady Olena Zelenska has become a key figure - a frontline diplomat and the face of her country's emotional distress," writes Vogue the cover story.
"These were the most terrible months of my life and the life of all Ukrainians," Zelenska said. "We look forward to the victory.
We have no doubt that we will win.
And that is what drives us.«
