First it rained too little for weeks, now too much at once: The constant rain in Bavaria has caused the water level of many rivers to rise.
The flood news service Bavaria reported that the areas of the smaller southern tributaries to the upper Danube, the Altmühl, on the upper reaches of the Iller and Lech, the tributaries to Lake Constance and the Inn area were particularly affected.
So far, the amounts of rain on medium-sized and larger rivers have "only occasionally led to overflows," it said.
Due to the dynamic weather development, however, floods are difficult to predict.
According to meteorologists, the risk of flooding and landslides is not over.
The German Weather Service (DWD) also warned of extremely heavy rain in parts of Bavaria on Saturday.
The extreme south-east is affected.
Up to 80 liters per square meter could fall there.
It rained heavily on Saturday night.
According to the police in the morning, there were no major operations.
In Lower Bavaria, aquaplaning occurred on some federal roads.
According to the police, there were no serious injuries in the accident.
According to the DWD, the “stormy rain” should continue throughout the day.
There could be heavy rainfall with some heavy thunderstorms into the afternoon.
A storm warning was issued for several districts in Bavaria in the morning.
The meteorologists warned of flooded streets and flooded basements.
Rivers could burst their banks, and landslides are also possible.
Severe storms had already hit neighboring countries on Thursday and Friday – some with fatal consequences.
Five people died in Austria alone as a result of fallen trees, and at least eleven others were injured.
