Germany and Israel have again agreed to set up a joint youth organization.
Federal Youth Minister Lisa Paus (Greens) and the Israeli Minister of Education Yifat Shasha-Biton signed a declaration of intent on Sunday in Jerusalem, as the ministry announced in Berlin.
»We are deepening the youth exchange that has existed for a long time and taking our cooperation to a new level«, explained Paus.
Germany and Israel have a special relationship.
Both countries share the knowledge of the past and the unconditional will to keep the memory alive - also because there will soon be no more contemporary witnesses to the Holocaust.
"The future is in the hands of the young generation," Paus continued.
»We therefore hope that there will be even more opportunities for young people to get in touch with one another and to learn from one another.«

The youth office is to be set up on the basis of the existing coordination offices for youth exchanges.
A joint working group is to develop the implementation.
There has already been a corresponding declaration of intent.
In October 2018, the then Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Franziska Giffey, and the then Israeli Education Minister, Naftali Bennett, also agreed to set up a German-Israeli youth organization.
However, the project was not implemented under the Merkel government.
