NEW YORK - One of New York City's most popular wintertime attractions and activities opens at high altitudes.

We are talking about ice skating, which, in the Big Apple, becomes sensational by moving to the 100th floor at the top of the Edge observatory at Hudson Yards and earning the distinction of the highest ice skating rink in the western hemisphere.

The attraction has been renamed 'Sky Skate' and will remain open until March.

It will not be a simple sporting activity but will also offer a spectacular 360-degree view of the city of New York, especially at sunset, when the sun turns the sky pink and then disappears behind the unmistakable skyline.

The rink is also completely eco-sustainable, it is made of synthetic ice and made by the Swiss company 'Glice'.

It doesn't need water or energy to work.

"Ice skating - Greg Holtzman, deputy director of Partnerships & Communications, Hudson Yards Experiences told ANSA - is an iconic activity in our city, it is loved by everyone, of any generation. We therefore thought about how much it could be nice to bring it to Edge, with the added bonus of a spectacular view".

The track is specially located in the internal part of the observatory in order to avoid any meteorological unpredictability in the winter months.

'Sky Skate' costs an extra ten dollars, including skate rental, on the price of admission to ride the Edge.

The rink has a maximum capacity of twenty people and each session lasts half an hour.

With the post-Covid 19 pandemic reopening, Edge has become one of the most sought-after tourist attractions in the city, as confirmed by the management itself.

"It is an absolute must-do when visiting New York - continues Holtzman -. With the post-Covid reopening we have recorded a significant increase in attendance and we are often sold out. The most requested time slot is naturally that of sunset. Sky Skate is adds to City Climb (climbing on the outer wall of the observatory, ed) in our quest to offer ever more sensational experiences. I anticipate that it will not end here because our team is always looking for sensational activities that can live up to the sensationality of Edge".
