We are taking giant strides towards the future in many areas.

Recently, a chatbot even saved the life of dog Sassy - with a diagnosis that no vet could come up with.

In most cases, anyone who owns a dog loves them like a family member.

That's what makes it so difficult when the animal falls ill - and even more difficult when it seems that no one can help it.

A Twitter

user named

@peakcooper

, also known simply as Cooper, appears to have been in just such a situation recently

.

He wrote on the online platform that, according to the vet, his border collie Sassy was suffering from a tick-borne illness and was being treated for it.

Unfortunately, the bitch got worse and worse.

Cooper got stuck and tried something new: the artificial intelligence (AI) ChatGPT.

The dog is a beloved member of the family for most owners.

If he suffers, they suffer with him.

That's why Connor wanted to try everything to save his bitch.

Dogs can save lives too, like a Rottweiler who saved his master from a poisonous snake on the sofa.

ChatGPT as a lifesaver - Artificial intelligence makes correct diagnosis for dog

Most pet owners know that ticks can transmit diseases such as Lyme disease or canine malaria not only in dogs but also in humans.

That's exactly what happened to Sassy.

The Border Collie dog appeared to have been bitten by a tick and was showing symptoms of babesiosis.

Despite a medical diagnosis and appropriate medication, Sassy's condition deteriorated dramatically after a few days.

The vet continued to look for possible causes, but found none suitable and advised Cooper to watch and wait.

However, that was out of the question for Sassy's master and he turned to the Internet.

"Meanwhile, it occurred to me that medical diagnostics is one thing that ChatGPT could be very good at, so I described the situation to the AI in great detail," he shared his experience in a thread on

Twitter

.

Cooper shared the blood results with the AI and asked about possible causes.

And the chatbot provided a range of possible answers.

Despite the "I am not a veterinarian..." disclaimer, it complied.

According to the principle of exclusion - a diagnosis remains

While ChatGPT wrote right off that he's not a vet, he's happy to help Cooper understand the blood results.

The AI listed a number of possible explanations for the blood results.

Some had already been checked and ruled out by the vet, but that left one possibility: immune-related hemolytic anemia (IHA).

Her owner then took Sassy to another vet, where he had her specifically examined for IHA.

It turned out that ChatGPT was right because the tests were positive.

IHA can result from babesiosis.

It is currently not known why the vet could not diagnose this.

But for the fact that Sassy is in top form again with the right treatment.

We started the dog on the proper treatment, and she's made almost a full recovery now.

Note that both of these diseases are very common.

Babesiosis is the #1 tick-borne disease, and IMHA is a common complication of it, especially for this breed.

At least Sassy must have been taking her meds.

Unlike male Bandit, who prefers to sleep on it.

ChatGPT does not replace a vet - but can support

Very important at this point: In no case is it sufficient to ask ChatGPT a question about symptoms and their causes.

In this case it only worked because many diseases had already been ruled out and the blood values were available.

You should also keep in mind that the currently much discussed AI does not have the most up-to-date knowledge.

But if you are looking for an additional way to find out about diseases, you can do so using the intelligent chatbot.

Alternatively, there are still questions in the circle of family and friends or in forums - many diseases have already been discovered and lives saved in this way.

Because the more people read something, the higher the probability that someone has experienced something similar.
