Opinion Yes, compromise Israel today

2023-02-19T08:48:48.826Z

It is impossible to continue with the "all or nothing" method used today, similar to previous election campaigns that focused on "only no Bibi" or "why yes Bibi"

We will hear about how 2023 opened for many years to come.

For the first time since the tent protest, many of the Israeli society decided to take to the streets and shout: no more.

Some of them are from the right-wing bloc, some from the left-wing bloc, the most extreme of which also get a platform on social networks.

The year 2023 opens with a fundamental question: What will the future of the State of Israel look like?

Where are we headed?

The crowd taking to the streets every night proves that this question bothers many, and I am among them.

But among the voices of protest, I lack a voice with which I can identify;

A moderate voice, which also represents the center bloc in Israeli society;

A voice that identifies with reality and sees it as complex and dynamic;

A voice that uses politics as a means, and does not divide into "good" and "bad";

One that comes from the mouths of characters who choose moderation and statesmanship.

Until the outline arrived.

That's when I heard for the first time a voice that balances and evokes sympathy, that understands that the valley of equality must be reached, that sees that the entrenchment on both sides of the political map will lead to the disintegration of the people.

President Herzog's compromise proposal proves that it is also possible to go "the middle way", and bridge the terrible rift that has formed between the citizens of the country.

In order to uphold the president's guidelines, first of all, the discourse regarding the middle path must be normalized, and everyone who is between the political extremes must also be allowed a platform.

Unfortunately, today in the worlds of media, and especially in social networks, we witness the extreme voices that prevent the voices of the middle from being heard.

Today's politicians have understood the method: those who express themselves in the most extreme way will receive a wider platform.

In this way, the intermediate positions are slowly disappearing from social networks and the public sphere.

Even after the president's proposal, the political debate continues to be conducted around disagreement and defiance.

Both sides insist on not compromising or surrendering.

For them - this is war, there is no surrender until the bitter end.

This opinion is supported by the right and the left, and I ask: why is there no ability to compromise and accept the president's proposal?

Why do you have to insist until the end?

After all, none of us wants to put an end to the miracle that the name of the State of Israel, which has somehow held for almost 75 years, flourishes and prospers.

The new coalition chose to set out with a desire to change the world order in Israel, and in the eyes of many - to endanger Israeli democracy.

She does this out of her right to govern and lead reforms, and the electorate must accept her decision.

Still, can the government ignore the will of the people?

Is it democracy when the public raises its concerns that we are harming our society, and in the process democracy?

I have difficulty with the extreme discourse that is going on these days.

It is impossible to continue with the "all or nothing" method used today, similar to previous election campaigns that focused on "only no Bibi" or "why yes Bibi".

We must, for the benefit of all parties, find the middle ground - as the Herzogs, Gantz and Bittans are trying to do.

They need your support today, and I am convinced that despite the silence that prevails, there is a silent majority that is ready for a compromise.

As Zev Jabotinsky said: "Silence is slime".

Fear not, supporters of compromise and agreement.

Despite the criticism and ridicule.

Israel is worth it.

were we wrong

We will fix it!
