Fighter jets can be heard in the sky most hours of the day. Many of my neighbors, aged 20 to 45, and many of my family members, were bounced. Who's in the south and who's in the north, who's in front and who's in the home front, which is also a front. One friend sent three children who were recruited.
The neighbor opposite, whose husband was called to the flag, stayed at home with five little ones. I don't publish a lot of information that comes in. There is no reason to help the enemy. He will wait for the end of the war.
And the more hours go by, the more names I know on the lists of fallen. Here is the son of a friend, the name of a friend's nephew. On and on. Clearly, this is not the end, but only the beginning. The sacrifice is and will be very heavy.
We are in a war of existence because if we do not defeat Hamas to the ground, then the message will be an invitation to Hezbollah and Iran to complete the work.
We are in a war of existence because if we do not win, even the Arabs who signed peace agreements with us will be tempted to think that the Jews, like the Crusaders, are a passing rule in the Land of Israel.
We are in a war of existence because if we do not wipe Hamas off the face of the earth, the south of the country will crop and leave the day after - and such a scenario is unimaginable.
We are in a war for survival because the whole world, which until a minute ago valued us very highly, is examining whether and how we are getting out of the crisis. If Israel is still America's best permanent aircraft carrier in the region, or a country that needs an American aircraft carrier to defend it. We are in a war of existence because if we don't win it, at home the atmosphere will be very difficult.

For sure, we lived in imaginations. We allowed ourselves to fight over nonsense. We have forgotten the importance of unity. We concentrated on the race for money and quality of life, not on life, as if we were not living in the murderous old Middle East. What folly.
Now the disillusionment has begun, both in consciousness, militarily and nationally. The people of Israel are united in the desire to erase the enemy. The reservists stabilized at 150 percent. The level of harm to the enemy has increased. The ministers made the right decisions when they imposed a blockade on the Gaza Strip.
But, there is still a long way to go. We must return to Israel's original security doctrine, take the initiative, transfer the war to the enemy's side and act to shorten it.
Despite the fact that the international rope is long and Israel's legitimacy is great, the global left-wing media is already beginning to hear criticism.
The time will come for the questions that are already being asked, the lessons to be learned, and the lessons to be learned. All this will wait for the day after, as will the rebuilding of the western Negev, the rehabilitation of the army and the return of normalcy to the country.
Now we are at war. Like our parents and grandparents who saved the Jewish people 50 years ago in the Yom Kippur War. Like the founding generation of the state, which sacrificed a percentage of its sons in the War of Independence. All the great words on which we grew up raising our children become realistic. All the stories about the Biluyim, the first aliyahs, the underground, the Palmach and Operation Entebbe are the legacy in light of which we must live now – and probably forever.
And so it will be. We will stifle the pain until the fighting ends, absorb the loss in harsh silence and embark on a brutal campaign to win. Because we have no other country.
