Highlights: Opinion | Position days are over | Israel Hayom. I am already aware of the fact that there may be things that need to be done and can be done, but the government is not doing either because they did not think about it or because of extraneous and incorrect considerations. After what we are experiencing now, anything can be. Therefore, the voice of the crowd saying "should" is no longer so disrespectful. And we need to pay attention to it and not cancel it.

Needless to say, this terrible thing is unlike anything we have ever known.

Dark days of blood and never-ending mourning.

Our Father in heaven, bless the State of Israel and protect it with Your grace.

During those two terrible days, I noticed something that was unwittingly going on inside me and maybe it could also teach something about what was happening around me.

I mean Bat Cole. The one that comes out every time something terrible like this happens. It comes out after every attack and after every round of missile attack and after every hostilities.

And it resonates in two arenas: within the personal consciousness and in the hollow of the state. And it begins with the word "should." We have to enter Gaza, we have to flatten Gaza from the air, we need a decisive decision, we have to harm the prisoners in order to deter, we have to cut off the electricity, we have to go back to Gush Katif, we have to cancel Oslo, we have to return to military rule, we have to let the IDF win. Need and need and need. And each time, for me at least, that inner voice is held back for two reasons. Either because of the humane/pragmatic approach that we were educated on that doesn't allow such actions, or, and this is most importantly, because of the mature attitude that says, well, that if it were that simple, then "they," that is, the government, would have done it long ago.

I must say that for me at least, the reasons were equal in weight, but the second one was more convincing. Against the "should" argument, I always brought the "well, really" argument. Both towards myself and even more towards outside claimants.

Well, really, I'd say quietly to all the "should" ranters. Why don't you call the prime minister and propose to him? After all, he hadn't thought about it. Ring, suggest him.

And the terrible thing that has happened to me in the last two days is that this reason, the second one, collapsed. I am already aware of the fact that there may be things that need to be done and can be done, but they don't do them either because they didn't think about it or because of extraneous and incorrect considerations. It certainly could be. After what we are experiencing now, anything can be. Therefore, the voice of the crowd saying "should" is no longer so disrespectful. And we need to pay attention to it and not cancel it. I, by the way, am not at all deciding on the question of what "should".

Perhaps we "should" surrender and give up territory (I'm afraid this has already been done). I'm just saying one big and leading "should":

We must say to the government and the security leadership: Unlike in the past, you are required to give answers. You need to explain your answers to the public's "needs." We no longer trust your judgment with our eyes closed.

We erased from our logical setup: "If it were that simple, they would have done it a long time ago," because in our eyes we saw things that were so simple and you didn't do them. Therefore, unfortunately, you will have to give answers.

And one more small matter: there will no longer be an umbrella of political support to protect. No and no.

Even people who are still willing to commit suicide for the justice of this government in all areas are asking today for answers regarding its actions in the coming days in Gaza.

The days of position are over.
