The Simchat Torah War landed on Israel at a chilling time, exactly 50 years after the Yom Kippur War. The opening, in both wars, was on the left foot: failure, surprise, collapse of the strongholds/settlements line, the time it took the reserve forces to arrive, the large number of victims and prisoners, the shock, the frustration, the rage.
And we have not yet experienced (at the moment of writing) another similarity between the two wars: in the Yom Kippur War, two fronts were opened simultaneously, the southern and the northern. In the Simchat Torah War, so far, only the southern front has been opened. It is very likely that the enemy to the north is waiting for its time to join, perhaps after the IDF becomes entangled in the Gaza mud.
In the context of the situation in the south, it is unclear how the friendly phrase "the Gaza envelope" was created, referring to the area adjacent to the Gaza Strip that includes Sderot and many small communities around it. The communities in this region, the northwestern Negev, do not feel the so-called warmth that is supposed to prevail between envelope and envelope, between them and their Gaza neighbors.
The misleading phrase apparently originated in the brainwashed mind of an officer who underwent criminal mental preparation in the context of the usefulness of "disengagement" – a euphemism for expelling Jews from their homes in their country – until he was swept up in the deception of "no Jews (in Gaza) - no terror attacks" and invented the phrase "the Gaza envelope." One would almost think that the vision of the end times is taking shape before our eyes: and a stranger is wrapped with a wrapper.
For those who have not yet grasped reality, Simchat Torah has come and perhaps opened their eyes so that they will see the painful reality. Say from now on "Gaza hijacker," not "Gaza envelope." The daily reality is one in which the envelope is hijacked by rockets and mortar shells, and now also by mass and brutal slaughter. As time passed, the enemy managed to increase its range of attack, and the hijacker enveloped more and more areas of the Land of Israel.
The Simchat Torah war was forced on Israel. The anger and frustration are enormous, but the situation requires caution, responsibility and a clear definition of the purpose of the war, along with a clear definition of what the purpose of the war is. There is no question that the goal must be the crushing of Hamas and its ability to harm Israel. We must also think about the day after, and clarify today what will not happen the day after. It is absolutely forbidden for Israel to endanger IDF soldiers in order to topple the Hamas government and transfer power in the Gaza Strip to its partner in the phased plan, Holocaust denier Mahmoud Abbas, chairman of the Palestinian Terror Authority. Such use of the IDF is unacceptable and immoral.

The truth is that of the Hamas-Abbas twins, the first is preferable. In the case of Hamas, it is a declared enemy, against whom the rules are clear, and the political costs are low. In Abbas's case, he is a wolf in sheep's clothing, an enemy whose objectives are identical to those of Hamas, but whose spectator landscape he disperses becomes a honey trap for many Israelis, who are willing to pay a deadly political price for Israel: a Palestinian state in the western Land of Israel. A Palestinian state and peace are the opposite. From this point of view, Hamas is less dangerous.
IDF soldiers must not serve as the "silver platter" for the establishment of a Palestinian state. If this is the desired outcome of a war in Gaza, then it is an immoral war and must not be waged.
