Qatar World Cup Group E

2022-11-12T22:21:32.126Z

The group contains two world champions, Spain and Germany, and two 'giant killers', Costa Rica and Japan

The E group

The group in which Spain is found is one of the toughest in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, if not the toughest.

Group E is the only one in the tournament that has two world champions among its members, Spain and Germany, favorites to go to the knockout rounds.

But if they get lost for a second, Japan or Costa Rica could take advantage of the opportunity and cause a surprise by leaving out one of the candidates for the title at the first opportunity.

The match of the second day that pits Luis Enrique's men against Germany will be decisive to know which of the two faces the classification calmly, and which one with the requirement of avoiding a blunder.

The teams

  • Spain:

Luis Enrique's men are capable of anything

  • Costa Rica:

To try to repeat the feat of 2014

  • Germany:

A new team, the same strength

  • Japan:

    Accustomed to surprise

The favourite

Between Spain and Germany, it is very difficult to decide which of the two reaches the World Cup at a better time.

Luis Enrique's men beat the Germans in the Nations League last year, but suffered more than necessary to secure their ticket to Qatar.

Germany fell out of the group stage at Russia 2018, but have a revamped squad and bench, with Flick trying to implement the idea that saw him win every year's titles with Bayern in 2020. The two teams will meet in the second day of the championship and then you can see the real potential of the two teams in the tournament.

the covered

This group has two teams that, starting from the shadows, have caused a surprise in recent tournaments.

Costa Rica made history in 2014 by beating Italy and England in the group stage and Japan have advanced from the group stage three times in the last five World Cups.

In Russia 2018 they got it ahead of Mané's Senegal and Lewandowski's Poland.

Although both teams assume they are underdogs to advance to the knockout rounds, they will try to repeat the feats of the past.
