2019-12-17T15:47:00.266Z

Terna inaugurates the Innovation hub of Milan, a laboratory of innovative ideas at the service of the electricity grid, which arrives after those in Turin and Naples. "It is with pride that we open a hub right here in the 'Italian capital of innovation', where a daily start-up is born and where an ecosystem is active that involves Italian and foreign companies, universities and research centers," says the president of Terna, Catia Bastioli, during the inauguration at the Terna headquarters of Pero, in the presence of the councilor for the digital transformation of the Municipality of Milan, Roberta Cocco, and of the member of the Arera college, Stefano Saglia.

"The hub is also a tool - adds Bastioli - to carry out our challenging national plan that includes investments for over 700 million euros in five years in innovation and digitalization, essential elements to enable the energy transition". The goal is to "develop innovative ideas and paths for the benefit of an increasingly modern, efficient, flexible, sustainable and above all capable of encouraging the current energy transition", explains Terna's managing director, Luigi Ferraris , highlighting the centrality of the Lombard territory in the company's strategy. "Lombardy is Terna's first investment region in northern Italy with 516 million euros planned over the next 5 years and, just in Milan, the most significant phase of the modernization of the city's 220 kV grid has recently been completed with the replacement of 47 kilometers of old cables in fluid oil dating back to the 1950s with new, more efficient and sustainable cables ".

The innovation hub is a "laboratory where internal and external skills, such as universities, startup research centers and companies, are contaminated to create a community of people who interact in a synergistic way", adds Bastioli, explaining that the four pillars of the strategy of companies are represented by "innovation, territory, digitalisation and people". Concretely, the Milan hub will move in the "analytics & energy systems" area to develop tools and skills for an increasingly "smart" management of the electricity grid through the processing and interpretation of data and the development of advanced algorithms and tools. simulation and forecasting. Inside there are two laboratories: one dedicated to energy tech, to enable system operator innovation projects and conduct experiments, and one focused on "advanced analytics", to interact with startups and innovative companies in a purpose-built environment.
