(ANSA) - BARI - "The act of the Sicily Region is legitimate, but the PDO and PGI wines obtained there will not have the indication of the name of the Primitivo grape on the label". This was assured by the director of the Agriculture Department of the Puglia Region, Gianluca Nardone, heard in the IV council commission on the protection of the Apulian Primitivo.

The hearings, asked after the Region of Sicily authorized the production of Primitivo, were also attended by the manager of the Competitiveness section of the agri-food chains, Luigi Trotta and the representatives of the Apulian wine sector Francesco Liantonio, president of the Consortium for the protection of DOC wines of Castel del Mountain; Mauro di Maggio, president of the Primitivo di Manduria Consortium and Massimo Tripaldi of Assoenologi Puglia.

The Apulian producers have expressed their concerns today, but Nardone reassured: "The ministerial decree of 13 August 2012 on the labeling of PDO and PGI allows use only in 7 Italian regions: Puglia, Basilicata, Campania, Abruzzo, Umbria , Lazio and Sardinia ", he recalled. "We ask that the mistakes of the past not be made - stresses Liantonio - and that we work together to strengthen the image of Puglia. The next opportunity is represented by the Labeling decree, on which we must be incisive and set up a system of protections that it concerns all the 27 Apulian denominations, perhaps through the creation of territorial areas ".
