The protocol that will apply from next week provides almost no restrictions: end of the mask, end of the limit

Forget masks and Kafkaesque sanitary rules.

“From Monday, we return to almost normal operation at school, like everywhere else,” welcomes Stéphane Crochet, from Unsa-SE.

The trade unionist participated this Thursday morning in the last round of discussions with the Ministries of National Education and Health.

Objective of this videoconference bringing together the main teacher organizations: to finalize the ultra-light protocol which will come into force from Monday.

Drop the masks

The main measure has been known for a week already.

This is the end of the indoor mask.

Since the return from the winter holidays, the students were no longer required to put it on at recess.

His disappearance is a real relief for the families.

It is, among other things, a weight less in the budget of the most modest households.

"It's very good, I only had one left in stock," smiles Nadia, a mother from Saint-Denis (Seine-Saint-Denis), whose daughter is in CE2.

“The kids had gotten used to it.

My eldest was even almost happy to wear them like adults, ”notes Emilie, a 41-year-old Parisian.

The specialists, speech therapists in the lead, had alerted them on several occasions to the delays in learning and acquisition of language in the youngest that the mask could cause.

Students can mingle

Other restrictions fall, such as the limitation of student mixing.

Until then, school heads were asked to ensure that classes crossed as little as possible.

A measure which, in its strictest version, turned into a nightmare, since, when a teacher was absent, his students could no longer be distributed to other rooms.

“Result, we sent everyone home and then had to manage the discontent of the parents”, breathes a teacher from Nantes.

Shortly before the winter holidays, at the height of the Omicron wave, the virus thus sowed real chaos at school.

At the beginning of February, there were more than 16,000 classes on stand-by, while the rule of closing as soon as three cases of Covid had already been abolished.

The return of sport without constraint

Physical activities can also resume normally on Monday, while the previous protocol prohibited indoor contact sports and required maintaining a certain distance between students.

Who of the contact tracing?

The trade unions were particularly concerned about contact-tracing and the fear that it would lead to “unsustainable management”, underlines Stéphane Crochet.

“As no one wears a mask anymore, everyone becomes a contact case as soon as a case appears in a class,” he notes.

The final rules should be published in the afternoon on the website of the Ministry of National Education, but we already know that schools will simply have the obligation to report cases to families.

The contact case pupils will then have to carry out a self-test on D + 2. If it is negative, the children will be able to stay in class.
