At the beginning of 2023, Ben Gurion Airport will become a digital airport.

The Airports Authority (RA) will set up new kiosks for the passengers' self-use with an investment of over two million shekels for the first phase, with digital means for the use of the passengers and to adapt the infrastructure to the new level of service on the way of the passengers abroad.

New and advanced self-use stations (the kiosks) will be set up at the airport to serve the passengers with a scale for weighing the luggage, the possibility of charging for the excess weight determined by the airlines, printing the tag and stickers for the suitcase ("bag tag") to allow the suitcase to be sent independently to the belly of the plane. The suitcase tag (the "bug tag") will be scanned near the independent delivery conveyors (the "drop off") and after scanning the code - the suitcase will be sent directly to the belly of the plane.

"The Airports Authority will activate task teams to ensure a good level of service for passengers and to minimize the impact of the less pleasant experiences, which we learn from regular monitoring and time measurements on busy days and in general," said the Authority. "Innovation is a key factor in enriching the passenger experience.

The procedure at the border control in Israel today is fully automated and allows more than 90 percent of passengers to go through the border control by scanning a passport and directly to the duty free hall.

The security check - only after check-in

It was also reported that in the coming days the carry-on baggage check area will be expanded to improve and shorten the time of standing in line during the carry-on security check.

In the departures hall, additional technologies will be added on 24 hand baggage check stations that will expand the rapid use of the complex.

According to Rasht, today more than 50 percent of passengers prefer to check in online. The advanced technologies will allow passengers to be provided with a diverse and expanded independent service. With the addition of the touch and play stations, passengers will go through security only after completing the flight registration procedure ( check-in), or direct flight registration from home (online), or alternatively, flight registration at the independent kiosks that will be installed in the departure hall.

Most of the departure processes from the country will be carried out, as mentioned, online and by digital means, while maximizing comfort and accessibility for passengers.

Since the beginning of the year, approximately 10 million passengers have passed through Ben Gurion Airport on international flights. In August, over 2.3 million passengers will pass through Ben Gurion Airport on international flights.
