Ferrari has appealed against the 5-second penalty imposed on Carlos Sainz in the Australian GP, which demoted the Spaniard from 4th to 12th place, outside the points.
Sainz "was desperate on Sunday," said Italian team boss Frédéric Vasseur, "we presented a request for a review of the decision. We sent it to the FIA."
Ferrari had already lost Charles Leclerc in the race to an accident on the first lap.
Sainz was penalized for squeezing Fernando Alonso's Aston-Martin and spinning the former world champion, who finished third.
Ferrari believe Sainz was treated more harshly than Pierre Gasly, who was not punished when he hit his Alpine team-mate Esteban Ocon late in the race, causing both to retire.
"We hope to have at least an open discussion with them (the FIA authorities)," said Vasseur, "it's also for the good of the sport, to avoid having this kind of decision where you have three crashes in the same corner and not the same decision (...) We got the impression that the incident between Gasly and Ocon was treated a little differently."
