This is how to prepare the hit of the summer - ice cream inside a fruit roll-up (PROJECTCANDYOFFICIAL)
Almost two months have passed since the first video that started the "roll-off" trend in Israel went live on Tiktok - users upload a video of themselves tasting the gummy candy that hardens in contact with cold, and if you use it to wrap ice cream - you get a particularly crispy snack that is fun to bite into.
The rush to supermarkets and containers in an attempt to purchase the candy completely emptied the stocks in a short time and the demand only increased.
The stores that ordered new stocks also encountered price increases from the importers and a rush to "roll-zero" began in the black market as well.
When the demand is so high, there are those who are willing to buy one unit of the product for NIS 40.
The Israeli Ministry of Health is not ignoring the trend and today they sought to clarify in a post they published what exactly is hidden inside the candy:
Illegal smuggling of Rollups (photo: official website, Tax Authority)
"Who hasn't heard of this candy and seen viral videos of it wrapping ice cream, burning and flooding the social networks, and we even heard yesterday that they tried to smuggle a large amount of it in Israel," the post reads. "So what's all the madness about?
Before you join the trend and pay exorbitant prices for a candy wrapped in ice cream, you might want to know some of the ingredients it contains:
glucose, corn syrup and dried corn syrup are all sugar
- lots of sugar and different kinds.
Sugar consumption was found to be associated with weight gain.
A variety of related diseases are attributed to sugar consumption such as cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, cancer, caries and more.
In addition, all sugars may worsen ADHD symptoms and affect the diet pattern and choice of foods.
As a result, already in 2015 the dietary recommendations for the public on behalf of many government bodies and health organizations included a significant reduction in sugar consumption.
Palm oil and hydrogenated fat
contain high levels of saturated fats, which increase bad cholesterol and the risk of cardiovascular disease.
This is in addition to clearing forests for oil production, which has a huge negative impact on the environment.
Natural and artificial flavors and aromas
that impart an unnatural flavor profile and that may affect eating patterns, food choices, and feelings of hunger and satiety."
They concluded - "So remember - just because it is photographed well, creates buzz and discussion on the Internet - does not mean that it is healthy for you and your children."
