The drama took place in Arpajon, on the night from Sunday to Monday. The alleged perpetrator is currently in a sobering-up cell.

A woman in her thirties was killed on Monday morning from several hammer blows to the head by a man following an argument in an apartment in Arpajon (Essonne), AFP learned from police source.

The Evry prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the counts of "murder" and "attempted murder", another woman present at the time of the tragedy having also been wounded with a hammer, the public prosecutor said.

According to the first elements of the investigation, the two women would have come "to spend the weekend" with this man, aged 39, who had been living alone for two months in this apartment, explained the police source.

At around 5 a.m., the victim, an Eritrean, allegedly asked her compatriot, alcoholic, to make less noise.

Furious, the man attacked her and then the second woman who tried to intervene.

A child attends the scene

The victim's children, a two-and-a-half-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy, were sleeping in another room but the screams woke the boy who "witnessed the scene," the police source said.

These children, whose father lives in a hotel in Paris, are the subject of a provisional placement order and the perpetrator of the beatings is currently in a sobering-up cell, said the same source.

The circumstances of the tragedy remain unclear, the links between the author of the hammer blows and the victim have not yet been established.

"We do not know if it is a member of the family or if they had an emotional relationship" or if it was an acquaintance, explained the parquet floor of Evry.
