The attack took place around 3 a.m., overnight from Sunday to Monday.

Two French tourists aged 22 and 27 were injured in the hands by stab wounds in the famous Red Light District of Amsterdam.

At this stage, the motivations of the aggressor have not been identified.

“The suspect fled.

We have not found him again,” said a spokesman for the police.

The two victims intend to file a complaint, further specifies the latter.

“Two people were injured in the hands.

One of the two was treated on the spot and the other was transferred to the hospital, ”he explains.

Located in the heart of the city, a stone's throw from the central station, the area known as the Wallen (Red Light District) is one of Amsterdam's greatest tourist attractions.

If it had suffered the full brunt of the health crisis, it was particularly crowded this Easter weekend, reported the daily Het Parool, according to which many people were there at the time of the events.

Due to the rise in local crime and the crowds of young party tourists, the area was once dubbed the "square mile of misery" by the police.

In order to calm the unrest and stem the crime, the local authorities even considered moving the prostitutes to a location in the suburbs to preserve this historic district, but most of the people working there demanded less drastic measures.
