Crack traffic in Paris: a network dismantled

2020-06-14T00:02:44.188Z

Arrested by the 2nd district of the judicial police, three suspected crack traffickers in Stalingrad Square (19th century) were brought before the court.

It is one of the first operations of the "action plan" to combat the crack trafficking that plagues Place Stalingrad in Paris. According to concordant sources, three men suspected of flooding this "poor man's drug" in the 19th arrondissement of Paris were arrested Thursday by investigators from the 2 nd district (DPJ) of the Paris judicial police. At the end of their police custody, they were referred this Saturday to be tried in immediate appearance before the Paris Criminal Court for "drug trafficking".

At the end of May, the prosecutor Rémy Heitz had announced in our columns to toughen up the repression to "tire the traffic" of crack, "to be always behind the dealers and the consumers". Numerous videos, photos and testimonies of residents had been published on social networks to denounce the scourge of the famous place "Stalincrack": daily fights between drug addicts, attacks against the inhabitants, purchase and consumption of drugs in plain sight impunity...

The high judge had then asked the judicial police to conduct investigations to dismantle trafficking, in addition to the work of local police stations, and announced that even consumers would be systematically referred with an order for therapeutic care.

Thus the 2nd DPJ identified in the framework of a preliminary investigation three suspected traffickers, born in 2000, 1994 and 1988 in Gabon and Senegal. The latter were reportedly spotted repeatedly selling crack cocaine to their customers in the square. Two were arrested at their home in Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis), the third in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine).

Over 55 grams and thousands of euros

The police found 51 grams of crack on one of the defendants, 5.5 grams on another, as well as several thousand euros in cash. They have several aliases, making it difficult to find a criminal record. Other operations of this type could be repeated in the coming months by the DPJ or the narcotics brigade (BSP).

Crack is a narcotic derived from cocaine obtained by melting a mixture of cocaine powder, baking soda and ammonia. Usually smoked using a glass pipe, this drug causes effects similar to cocaine, but more violent and rapid, and can lead to hallucinations. It costs much less than cocaine.
