The Iron Sword War continues to land new US-made combat vehicles in the IDF. In addition to the Flyer 72 reconnaissance vehicle that we have already reported, Bloomberg revealed today that the Ground Forces have also received 75 armored JLTV vehicles.
The JLTV is the Humvee's replacement in the U.S. Army, Marines, and Special Forces. Along with improved off-road capabilities and performance, the vehicle was designed so that it can be quickly mounted in a kit that makes it bulletproof. Thus, the general cost of the vehicles was reduced and it was possible to operate them without protection where possible, which reduces the costs of procurement and ongoing operation, while on the other hand, the US Army received a large and available quantity of armored vehicles.

OSHKOSH WAS ORIGINALLY CHOSEN TO SUPPLY THE VEHICLE, BUT TWO YEARS AGO IT WAS DECIDED TO PURCHASE A VERSION MADE BY AM GENERAL, THE ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER OF THE HUMMER. What they have in common: The two companies used Israeli Plasan, from Kibbutz Sasa, to develop their protection. THIS IS ON A LOWER SCALE IN OSHKOSH AND ON A LARGER SCALE IN THE AM GENERAL VERSION, WHICH EARLIER THIS YEAR AWARDED A $300 MILLION PRODUCTION CONTRACT TO PLASSAN NORTH AMERICA.
Oshkosh vehicles arrived in Israel, with a 6,600 cc turbo diesel engine, based on General Motors' Dormax, a 6-speed automatic transmission, and a top speed of 110 km/h. The vehicle can be armed with machine guns and anti-tank missiles. The price of JLTV is about $400,<> per unit.
