A 52-year-old worker died late Thursday morning after the collapse of a wall on a construction site in Istres (Bouches-du-Rhône), report our colleagues from BFM Marseille and La Provence.
Another worker, aged 21, finds himself between life and death.
The events took place around 11 a.m., in the Heures-Claires district located to the south of the city.
When emergency services arrived on site, they extracted the two men who were under the rubble.
Both were in cardiorespiratory arrest, according to firefighters.
The oldest worker unfortunately did not survive.
His colleague, seriously injured, was rushed to hospital.
His vital prognosis is in jeopardy.
Frequent accidents on construction sites
The company carrying out the work is a family business, says La Provence.
The regional daily specifies that the collapse of the wall could be linked to a landslide caused by heavy rains this Thursday morning in the region.
An investigation was opened to determine the exact causes of the accident.
Tragedy on construction sites is unfortunately common.
On Tuesday, a worker lost his life on a construction site in Stains (Seine-Saint-Denis), finding himself buried under rubble while digging a trench.
Between July and November 2023, two workers died on the construction site of the controversial Paris-Turin railway line.
