The opening episode of the 23rd season of the American police series "Law and Order", which aired yesterday, describes the murder of a university president in the United States, against the background of anti-Semitism on campuses, the massacre in Israel on October 7 and Israel's war with Hamas.
This is the first time that a television drama series directly refers to the massacre in the Western Negev, in which about 1,200 people were murdered and more than 200 were kidnapped to the Gaza Strip.
At the heart of the episode, as mentioned, was the murder of the university president, who was stabbed to death shortly after he encountered boys defacing an advertisement calling for the release of the Israeli hostages from Hamas captivity.
Later in the episode, without going too much into spoilers - the episode will be broadcast this Tuesday on Hot and Bis - it becomes clear that among the lines of investigation are the anger of a Jewish lecturer, whose friend was murdered in a massacre with his entire family, over the Mossad president's weak response to the pro-Palestinian demonstrations and his refusal to stand resolutely on Israel's side , and on the other hand - the anger of pro-Palestinian students at the president's intention to close a student cell that expressed joy at the murderous attack and the death of the Israelis, and among its members were those who called for the murder of more Jews.
Another figure, of Palestinian origin, accuses that the president was a "puppet of the Zionist agenda".
Behind "Law and Order" is the producer Dick Wolf, who in recent months expressed strong criticism against the University of Pennsylvania and its response to anti-Semitism on campus.
One of the stars of the mythological series, Diane Neal, immigrated to Israel this year.
