The A64 blocked “for an indefinite period”?

Since Thursday, farmers have occupied the A64 motorway near Carbonne (Haute-Garonne) to protest against the lack of state aid and new restrictions.

This Friday morning, “blockages are still in progress on the A64 motorway in both directions between interchanges 26 and 27”, wrote the prefecture on X (formerly twitter).

“Anticipate or postpone your trips,” she warns.

The call to block this portion of the road was launched by the local FDSEA (federation of farmers' unions).

“As a reminder, only empty skips, no waste will be dumped,” the organization warned on social networks.

She demands, among other things, an “urgent release of the envelopes promised by the State”, but also not to modify irrigation authorizations and “no additional taxes”.

Bales of straw, tractors and various equipment were installed on the highway to mark the blockage, and farmers spent the night on site, according to France Bleu.

“Sanitary facilities, water tank, generator… basic installations but designed to last,” writes the media.

“We will block this portion of the A64 for an indefinite period!

», warned the FDSEA and the Young Farmers of Haute-Garonne, in a message on Thursday.

“A fight to save our profession”

“We have embarked on a fight to save our profession and the one that makes you eat,” wrote Jérôme Bayle, member of the FDSEA who is participating in the movement, on Facebook.

He says he apologizes “for the slowdowns caused on the roads but unfortunately it is our future that is at stake”.

Other axes are also affected by blockades from angry farmers.

In Ariège, a blockage on the RN20, which began on Thursday, was lifted on the morning of Friday, the prefecture announced.

“The tracks being cleaned will be reopened in the morning,” he is assured.

In Aude, a demonstration is underway on the A61, at interchange no. 21 Castelnaudary.

Farmers have increased their rallies and protests in recent months.

At the end of 2023, everywhere in France, city entry and exit signs had been turned over to denounce the stacking of administrative, regulatory and environmental constraints.
