A driver in Berlin insulted an employee of the public order office with the “stink finger”.
The angry gesture now costs the man dearly.
There are drivers who almost always remain calm, while others lose their patience more quickly.
A nerve-wracking search for a parking space in the city, jostling in the rearview mirror or observing reckless accident observers: There are many situations in daily traffic in which most people have probably sworn at least once - usually with the windows closed.
Because: Anyone who insults other people in their anger must expect high penalties.
This applies not only to literal insults, but also to corresponding gestures.
One of these costs a driver from Berlin dearly.

Driver has to wait - and shows an employee of the public order office the middle finger
In March 2023, an employee of the public order office discovered an incorrectly parked vehicle on Kottbusser Damm and then had it moved.
Because of this measure, another driver had to wait - which didn't suit him at all.
He showed the law enforcement officer the extended middle finger.
With consequences: The man has now been sentenced to a hefty fine, as the
Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office
reports.
The court slapped the driver with 30 daily rates of 60 euros each - a total of an impressive 1,800 euros.
Why Penalties for insults can vary
There is no set catalog of fines for insults in Germany.
The court decides how high the punishment will be after a verbal derailment.
The daily rates imposed by the judge depend on the severity of the insult and on the monthly net income.
This means: the more a convicted person earns, the higher the punishment will be.
The “stink finger” now cost a driver in Berlin dearly.

Example cases: What insults have cost in the past
According to
the ADAC,
between 20 and 30 daily rates are usually imposed for insults - points in Flensburg have not been awarded for insults since 2014.
The automobile club lists some penalties from the past:
“Dirty beast” – 700 euros
“Sluts, you miserable ones!” (to a police officer) – 1,000 euros
“You have a blast!” – 1,000 euros
“A...hole!”, “dirty pig” – 1,000 euros
“A...hole, complete idiot, idiot, dog cripple” (together) – 1,200 euros
“Son of a bitch, bastard, whoremonger” (together, multiple times) – 1,600 euros
If you are physically violent in addition to the insult, you could even face imprisonment according to Section 185 of the Criminal Code.
You can also face imprisonment if you combine the insult with coercion in traffic (§ 240 StGB).
A driving ban can also be imposed in this case.
