He didn't have time to make his request.

An American was arrested on January 11 at Oslo airport (Norway) for entering the national territory illegally with several firearms, revealed the Norwegian daily Verdens Gang (VG).

He also had a notebook in which several names of members of the Norwegian royal family were written, which immediately alerted the local police.

The man, aged around forty, arrived on Norwegian soil on January 10, but did not receive his luggage until the next day, explains the TV2 channel.

In total, 17 suitcases weighing 250 kg, because he planned to stay “for a while” in the country.

He wanted to apply for a gun permit in Norway

But during the search of the luggage, customs found numerous firearms in his luggage, such as a Remington rifle but also a black powder weapon.

Also according to TV2, the man explained that he thought it was safer to take the weapons with him to Norway, where he said he wanted to work in the agricultural sector, as he had done in the United States .

According to his lawyer, Jørund Lægland, the 40-year-old told customs that he had unregistered weapons (without ammunition) in his luggage, but that he planned to apply for a permit in Norway if he used them.

However, Norwegian law provides that you must have a permit before even entering national soil with a firearm.

When police searched the rest of the American's luggage, they found a notebook with the names of several members of the royal family and their addresses, according to the judgment handed down by a Norwegian court.

"The defendant's ties to Norway and the purpose of his stay appear to be, among other things, a particular concern of the Norwegian royal family and in particular for Princess Ingrid Alexandra, whom he wishes to marry, according to his statement to the police,” specifies the judgment rendered on January 12 by the Norwegian courts.

Already deported from Norway in 2021

The man eventually pleaded guilty to violating the weapons law and was sentenced to four weeks in prison.

He must be deported at the end of his sentence, his lawyer said.

He had already been expelled from Norway in August 2021 after several insistent visits to the royal palace and the residence of Crown Prince Haakon of Norway (and his daughter Ingrid Alexandra), in Asker, a suburb of Oslo.

The Norwegian royal house did not wish to comment on this matter.

Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway, who celebrates her 20th birthday this Sunday, is the eldest daughter of Crown Prince Haakon of Norway and Princess Mette-Marit.

The couple is called to reign upon the death of the current sovereign Harald V. As the eldest, Ingrid Alexandra will one day also ascend the throne.

For now, she has started a one-year military service in the Norwegian army, specifies NRK.
