The mobilization of farmers in Ariège has turned into a tragedy.
Early this Tuesday morning, a woman died at the Pamiers blockade point, said the president of the FNSEA union Arnaud Rousseau on RMC.
“A road accident happened” involving “three of our members,” he said.
“A woman has died, her husband and her daughter are in a complicated condition” and were taken care of by emergency services, he said.
According to France 3 Occitanie, the accident occurred around 5:30 a.m., a vehicle entered the RN20, which was blocked by farmers, and drove into the demonstrators.
“They passed at crazy speed, on the shoulders, avoiding the concrete blocks,” described
Sébastien Durand, vice-president of the FDSEA of Ariège to the local media.

The four occupants of this vehicle were arrested on site and will be placed in police custody, according to information from France 3.
“This upsets us all,” underlined the president of the FNSEA on RMC, who invites farmers “to be vigilant” on the blocking points.
The trade unionist also calls on the Prime Minister to “go quickly” in announcing concrete measures.
